We support the purchase of harnesses for the walking track
Project name
We support the purchase of harnesses for the walking track
Project goal
In 2012, the Tartu University Hospital’s Children’s Fund alongside with NPO Club Tartu Maraton and Computech is helping the Tartu University Hospital’s children and youth development and rehabilitation treatment center to purchase harnesses for their walking track.
Project duration
January 2012 to December 2012
Detailed introduction
In 2009, the Tartu University Hospital’s Children’s Fund helped the Tartu University Hospital’s children and youth development and rehabilitation treatment center to purchase a walking track, which is vital for rehabilitation treatment. However, without harnesses that attach to the ceiling, less children can utilise the track.
Tiina Lind, a junior doctor and lecturer of the Tartu University Hospital’s children and youth development and rehabilitation treatment center, explains the necessity of the harnesses: “Currently, only children that can maintain balance in an upright position, can use the walking track in the children’s clinic development and rehabilitation treatment center. With harnesses attached to the ceiling, children whose balance is still too unstable to stand up without assistance, could also use the track. With the harnesses supporting the children, they could create a premise for their first independent steps in cooperation with the physiotherapist by getting a sense of the correct walking pattern. The harnesses would especially help children who have suffered traumas or nerve damage, that still have the potential to start walking independently again.”
Project cost
The harnesses belonging to the walking track cost 5000 euros.
Major supporters
For several years, the volunteers of the Children’s Fund have kept the youngest participants busy during NPO Club Tartu Maraton’s popular sports events by drawing, playing and creating things. In addition to helping take care of the children, the Children’s Fund in cooperation with NPO Club Tartu Maraton helps children that need rehabilitation treatment every year, including this marathon season.
In 2012, the Children’s Fund signed a cooperation contract with Computech. From March 2012 to October 2012 Computech will hold a monhtly charity auction whereas all profit from the auction will be used by the Children’s Fund to purchase the harnesses.
In 2011, the Children’s Fund in cooperation with NPO Club Tartu Maraton gathered nearly 1200 euros in donations, which was used to buy smaller equipment for the Tartu University Hospital’s children and youth development and rehabilitation treatment center. The Children’s Fund would hereby like to thank all good marathon friends who contributed to the purchase of small physiotherapy equipment.
The Children’s Fund organized a charity pancake sale at the first marathon events of 2012 and the profit from that will also be used to support the purchase of the harnesses. The pancake sale was supported by Tartu Mill, Catering 24, Reolga Gaas and Põltsamaa Felix.
SA Tartu Sport organized a second-hand fair on February 25th, where different sporting equipment was sold. A part of that event was a charity sale to support the purchase of harnesses. Known Estonian athletes also donated items for the charity sale.
