Detailed introduction
Jan is a prematurely born boy, whose problem is spasticity. It is a rigid state of muscles, due to which the child’s motor development has slowed down. Right now, Jan doesn’t yet walk, but can get himself up by using his hands.
Jan has to receive treatment twice a week in Tartu. In addition, he has to visit the Karula nursing home in Viljandi for grossing and if possible, spend one or two weeks in treatment in Viljandi. Transportation costs are a big expense for the family and in addition to transportation costs, there are also expenses for medication and rehabilitation treatment.
According to Jan’s mother, the family’s financial state is complicated and the most saddening fact is that at the end of the month, they simply do not have enough money to pay for the child’s treatment, so they have to give it up for some period of time, but in order for Jan to develop as fast as possible, constant treatment is vital.
Project cost
The Children’s Fund supports Jan’s family with transportation costs for up to 360 euros monthly.
Major supporters
Jan’s treatment is supported by permanent donors and donors who have donated for the intended purpose. Rehabilitation treatment is supported by NPO Naerata Ometi.
Latest information
The three-year-old Jan is a very sterling and joyful boy who is adapting to new environments quickly, keeps eye contact and has made very big improvements. As the result of the previous treatment, Jan can now stand and maintain balance and does not hold his body weight on one foot. Before treatment, his coordination between both hands was disrupted, now Jan can use both hands, but still prefers his left. When crawling, he supports himself on his right hand and picks up items with his left. He is able to walk up and down the stairs, he uses a rolling walker to go to kindergarten and can grab things with both hands. His feet position has improved by much, as well. Before treatment, Jan held one foot crooked inwards, now he stands with straight feet. He can hold himself up by leaning against walls and make a few steps.
You can only guess what feelings Jan’s mother has when she hears: “Mommy, I have to start walking, because you can’t soon enough and I want to run.”
