Detailed introduction

Eliise was born prematurely on January 27th 2005 weighing just 490 grams. Eliise’s main disorder was great brain damage, called PCI. Eliise’s stomach is immature, just 15 ml in capacity and she is fed via a probe. The food is pushed to the stomach at a steady speed by an automatic syringe, known as a perfusor at the rate of 35ml/h and feeding takes place 24 hours a day. Eliise’s stomach is only capable of processing one special food sold as a prescription in pharmacies, Aptamil Digestive Care 50ml. One can, that costs 18 euros, lasts the girl for three days. The prepared food runs to the stomach for 1.5 hours with the help of the perfusor. As the food mixture is vital for the child, being the only thing she eats, it costs the family 180 euros per month to purchase. Eliise goes to the Viljandi Social and Childcare Centre, where she usually stays for 1–2 weeks and the following 1–2 weeks, she spends at home. The fee for the care centre is 416 euros per month, of which the municipality only covers 64 euros. The family has had to cover the remaining amount of 352 euros.

Eliise’s mother Margit: “The most important thing in my life is Eliise and as long as she is in my life is how long we will fight for and with her. I love my child more than anything in this world!”.
