Project name
We help visually impaired children
Project goal
The goal of the project is to help visually impaired children enjoy films. For this purpose, the Estonian cartoon “Lotte and the Moonstone Secret” will receive audio description.
Duration of the project
November 2011 to October 2012
Detailed and longer introduction of the project
“Lotte and the Moonstone Secret”, loved by both adults and children, received almost 65 000 cinema viewers, but there are still children who cannot take part of Lotte’s adventures yet. Some of these children are visually impaired, whereas the impairment is so severe that it disrupts their everyday activities. The Children’s Fund has set a goal to make Lotte’s cartoon available for them as well. To achieve this, the cartoon will require audio description, which means that the visual part of the cartoon will be described via dialogues. Thanks to audio description, children in Estonia with visual impairment can also enjoy Lotte’s adventures.
You can support children with visual impairment by buying stickers and earrings designed by artist Meru, which depict the Tartu University Hospital’s Children’s Fund’s mascot, Mõmmik and the PÖFF’s (Black Nights Film Festival) wolf. Both the stickers and earrings come in three different designs.
During PÖFF (November 18th – 30th), all festival attendees can buy earrings and stickers from the PÖFF venues and information booths in Tallinn and Tartu. Additionally, PÖFF ran an advertisement designed by Kristjan Lüüs, that introduced the campaign during their screenings. 15% of the profit from the sold keepsakes was used to produce the audio description.
Nobody is left indifferent by the young Meriliis Rinne, also known by her artist name, Meru. The painting and jewellery artist, who is always full of life and joyful, likes to create beauty. Images drawn by her on the earrings are like paintings that you hang on your ears instead of your walls.
Project cost
The estimated cost of the audio description is 1000 euros.
